πŸ€” Why have a personal site?

Personal sites were more common when I was first getting online in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, but I was mostly using stuff like MSN Messenger, LimeWire, and Ebaumsworld. I was a little young to have my own site at the time, and the web was shifting anyway.

Platforms were starting to take over. It was easier to set up a page inside a walled garden like Myspace or Facebook, so most people did. Now, platforms dominate huge portions of the internet, and it’s more important than ever to use and support the open web.

I still use RSS. There are still so many great independent blogs, and the good web is alive in scattered pockets. I don’t actively post myself, but I wanted to carve out my own little corner.
